Lester J. Kaplan, Ph.D. Appointed to Medinox Board of Directors

San Diego, California (June 21, 2002) Medinox, Inc. announced today that Lester J. Kaplan, Ph.D., President of R&D and Global BOTOXĂ’ and board member of Allergan, Inc. has been appointed to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Kaplan brings extensive pharmaceutical industry expertise to the board, having held leadership positions in Allergan's research and development department for the last 19 years.

Dr. Kaplan joined Allergan in 1983 as a bioorganic chemistry section manager. Since then he has held positions of increasing responsibility including Vice President of R&D, Sr. Vice President of R&D, Corporate Vice President of R&D, and Corporate Vice President of Science & Technology. Dr. Kaplan was appointed to his current position as President of R&D in 1998 and was elected to the Allergan Board of Directors in 1994.

Before coming to Allergan, Dr. Kaplan held research positions for the Upjohn Company and for the University of California, Los Angeles, and taught chemistry at Temple University and UCLA.

Dr. Kaplan is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Chemical Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In addition, Dr. Kaplan is an ambassador of the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Foundation.

Dr. Kaplan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana, and a Master of Science and doctorate in organic chemistry from UCLA.
